In response to one of my many Letters to the Editor of the local newspaper, a reader responded that “I needed to dial my radio back from the right.” The implication was that my comments were far right and that the fact that my favorite radio host was Rush Limbaugh was the proof of the matter. I let my response idle for a few years until Substack came along and opened up a proper path for response. Rush is gone now, God Bless him.
The objecting reader missed it big time. The American Heartland is not far-right and neither am I. We believe that the cultural values of America are based on Judeo- Christian fundamentals. The cultural values are Individual Freedom, Self-Reliance, Equality of Opportunity, Competition, The American Dream and Hard Work. These are the founding principles of the Nation and that is the center, not the far right.
If you search definitions of Left Wing and Right Wing, you will find many varied opinions. Here is one:
The fundamental differences between left-wing and right-wing ideologies center around the rights of individuals vs. the power of the government. Left-wing beliefs are liberal in that they believe society is best served with an expanded role for the government. People on the right believe that the best outcome for society is achieved when individual rights and civil liberties are paramount and the role — and especially the power — of the government is minimized.
This is not correct. This is the Center of the American belief system, the actual political make-up of We the People. It is not far-right or even right of center. It is The Center and it is The Majority.
Now those actually on the Left believe that:
“The main difference between left wing and right wing is that Left Wing is characterized by equality, freedom, rights, progress, and reform, while Right Wing is characterized by duty, hierarchy, authority, order, tradition, and nationalism.”
They are also wrong. The Left no longer believes in equality, freedom, and rights. Those have been replaced by equity, diversity and inclusivity under the banners of Progress and Reform. These are far-Left ideologies and can best be defined as Marxist or Communist principles. Unfortunately, this is now the current platform of the Democratic Party. It is not the party of the working middle class. There is no spiritual heart. It is now made up of Socialists, an entrenched political establishment, corrupt media executives and Big Tech oligarchs. It is truly far-Left and anti-American. It gained power by distorting the election process during a national crisis, the COVID-19 Pandemic. VOTEdemsout2022.
