A truism is an undoubted or self-evident truth. According to Merriam-Webster, “. . . a truism is so especially true that it is too obvious for mention.” But here I go again, mentioning the obvious because what is obvious to many of us is not so obvious to others, in particularly those “others” who have been indoctrinated by climate alarmist propaganda.
The propaganda has successfully created a cultist-environmentalist sect of young people being led astray by the prophecies of climate doomsayers. Some of these doomsayers are independently ignorant of climate physics, but many more are aware of the actual science but are seeking to cash-in on the rush to renewable energy. The one-sided flow of research funding to those supporting the false narrative of climate hysteria has created an uneven playing field that tilts far-left. That is the downside of capitalism. It provides the funds for the propaganda purveyors who perpetuate the myth of a climate apocalypse if we continue the use of fossil fuels. The truth is that there certainly will be a human climate apocalypse if we don’t continue the use of fossil fuels.
The gullible have been convinced that the naturally occurring gas, carbon dioxide, is being spewed into the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels and other insidious human activities such as farming, drinking milk and eating meat. Yep, that’s what they are saying. We must become anti-capitalist communists to stop this awful destruction of the planet. Just ask Representative Ocasio-Cortez of New York. In the proverbs of the great prophet Forrest Gump, “Stupid is as Stupid does.”
There are some truthful purveyors of climate science and philosophy out there. Consider the latest publication from the CO2 Coalition authored by Emeritus Professors, William Happer and Richard Lindzen. Then there are two rather knowledgeable geologists, Gregory Wrightstone and Andy May. Leading the charge in Climate philosophy is energy expert Alex Epstein. These men are American heroes. But there is also a Canadian hero in climate truth, Dr. John Robson of the Climate Discussion Nexus. Oh yeah, there are women heroes as well. Just consider Dr. Judith Curry at Climate Etc. Her new book Climate Uncertainty and Risk has been accepted for publication, following peer review and submission of a revised manuscript.
The battle for Truth appears to be between the actual knowledge experts listed in the previous paragraph and the climate wacko cult comprised of the alarmists, progressive politicians, dysfunctional mainstream media and “woke” corporations who have bought into the anti-American scheme of ESG. Just consider the recent activity by the SEC to implement a Biden sponsored rule requiring every public company to disclose its “climate risk.” This rule is not only based on false science, it is most assuredly unconstitutional and contrary to common sense. Just consider that most investors are shareholders. They expect their investments to bear fruit, not be wasted on misguided schemes claiming to be on the moral high ground. It isn’t moral to be stupid. It’s just stupid.
Having taught college students for 50 years, we can testify to the fact that each succeeding year, young adults of today know less, think less and are less analytical, thus easily gullible.
