Comedy is supposed to be funny. It is also supposed to be entertaining. Sometimes it is satirical, making an objective point in a comical way. Comity is courtesy and a considerate behavior toward others. It is supposed to transcend ideology, or else it used to in a rational world where both comedic relief and common courtesy could co-exist.
The recent Dave Chappelle flap was brought on by his personal observation of biology as related to gender. This created a conflict that exposed the hypocrisy of late-night show hosts and the Twitter mob. He raised the ire of the extreme minority transgender population by just stating biological facts. Chappelle will either be brave and stand by his true belief or cave to the onslaught of the tyrannical minority of the alphabetic community.
I guess when you get down to it, comedy is best when it is fair, making fun of both sides of an issue. Chappelle has done that, but primarily from a minority perspective. His reward should be support, not harangue and cancellation. But I’m an old white guy so my comments are probably not universally appreciated. But I can still laugh at something funny. And the hypocrisy of the far-left running this country is sort of funny when you think about it. But sad too.
