I AM AMERICAN
We came from all the lands on earth
In search of the gift of Freedom
We found it in our hearts and homes
And will surrender it to no one.
We are One Nation Under God
In Unity our Liberty depends
We know our Rights are from above
We are Americans.
A truly free nation must go through a process of cultural assimilation. Multiple cultures go into the hopper and a singular national culture is produced that hopefully resembles an even mix of all cultures. In the past, America was called the World’s melting pot. There was, and still is, no “cultural misappropriation crime” attributable to the process. Each previous culture willingly shares its strengths and weaknesses. The assimilation machine whirls and spits out the weaknesses so the resulting national culture is strong, even robust and very, very good. But the key is the willingness of the previous cultures to give up parts of their heritages, hopefully the bad parts. Those are the parts that caused them to leave their former home countries in the first place. But in some cases, many were unfortunates who were unwillingly torn from their homelands. That was the case of the slaves from the African continent. In other cases, the immigrating culture has had difficulty shaking off the negative components of its cultural heritage. Islamic Sharia Law is an example of one of those negative cultural components associated with immigrants from the Middle East, Africa and Indonesia. All cultures have some negative attributes.
Racial discrimination in America was part of its original heritage. There is no denying it. It came with the practice of slavery, an ancient evil. There was racial prejudice and even bigotry in America that continued after the Civil War in the form of Jim Crow laws in the South. It was a cultural weakness that went into the assimilation hopper and was eventually rejected. The machine had to spin over 200 years to complete that purification, but it has been completed.
The Black culture has placed many strengths into the hopper. It has injected music, art, physical ability and mental acuity into the hopper along with many other cultural strengths. American Jazz, improved athleticism in all sports, medicine, agricultural science, law, even hair and clothing styles are just a few examples of the Black culture that has become an integral part of American culture. Other cultures have also entered the hopper, from Asia, Europe, even those cultures from Central and South America. But, for some reason, the Black culture has suffered an assimilation setback.
The assimilation machine was working at its excruciatingly slow pace until a desire for a deviant form of social justice, best described as a recovery of time stolen from the Black community, became the over-arching objective of political activists and race baiters. Some call this objective reparation. These activists and race baiters need an enemy and the white majority fits the bill, even though the white population is no longer a majority in the less than 18-year-old cohort. And the current white population had nothing to do with slavery, in fact, their ancestors were responsible for overturning that evil practice. But the positive progress made over 200 years has now been ignored. Written history is being altered to suit an insidious intent. And unfortunately, the positive assimilation has now stopped, and a type of voluntary segregation has begun. It is unclear who the instigators of this new segregation actually are and what their real objective may be. But it is a step backwards and that is a shame.
