In an act of highest order of patriotism and sacrifice, Loudon County Virginia fifth-grade teacher Laura Morris tendered her resignation to the school board. In her emotional speech she stated that she refused to continue pushing their “highly politicized agendas.” She was protesting against the forced “equity training” that targeted White, female, Christian teachers. She speaks for many teachers and the parents of school children. She is no “domestic terrorist.” The Attorney General of the United States needs to understand that.
Merrick Garland was confirmed to the office of Attorney General under President Joe Biden by a margin of 70-30 in the U.S. Senate. Twenty Republican senators voted to confirm Garland, even though he had a history of opposing gun rights and downplaying Black Lives Matter and Antifa violence.
Since his appointment as Attorney General, Garland has developed a lengthy track record of violating the Bill of Rights of American citizens while doing little to investigate anti-American BLM and Antifa attacks on federal courthouses and police officers since those attacks do not meet his standard definition of – “domestic terrorism” because they “happened at night.” But he has put the full force of his office on the prosecution of January 6th protestors and parents protesting at local school board meetings. Apparently protesting parents do meet his definition of “domestic terrorists.”
Recently, Garland issued a declaration of war on America’s parents. In a memo to FBI Director Christopher Wray and the U.S. attorneys generals he said, “I am directing the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working with each United States Attorney, to … [address] threats against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff.”
In response, Alliance Defending Freedom General Counsel Kristen Waggoner sent the following in a letter to Garland.
“Parents expressing concern over critical race theory, gender theory, and COVID-related mandates in public schools do not qualify as domestic terrorists. Their protests do not warrant the involvement of federal law enforcement or the application of federal laws aimed at stopping, among others, transnational terror organizations. Employing those powerful national security tools against frustrated parents is a misuse of federal power. It vilifies largely peaceful, well-intentioned citizens who are seeking nothing more than to protect and promote the well-being of their children. And it chills the constitutionally protected speech of those who rightly object to ill-considered policies on our nation’s schoolchildren. Many parents, including some of our clients, are rightly concerned that the government has violated their fundamental right to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their children. They want school boards to remove politics from the classroom and get back to academics. They have the right to express those concerns to elected officials and shouldn’t live in fear of government punishment for doing so.”
Merrick Garland may have violated his oath of office to protect and follow the Constitution. He needs to apologize and/or resign.
Laura Morris deserves the Medal of Freedom.
