In 2008 the America public was worn out with the war against an irrational enemy, radical Islamic terrorists. A lot of the fatigue was driven by the negativism of a mainstream media that had both hyped the need for war and then attacked those executing the war.
So along comes the Storybook (Obama) promising Hope and Change. A weary American electorate bought the Democrat sales pitch—hook, line and sinker. Why not? Perhaps we could get out of wars and show the World that America was not racist. Electing a Black man as President would surely do the trick. The Republicans had proposed a continuation of their worn-out policies and offered up another old white guy. Their establishment-driven priorities had accomplished little, even when controlling both the House and the Senate. The media was non-supportive and the public tuned them out. The Democrats had a rising star. But the policies of Barack Obama would be worse than expected. He would set America against itself. He would purposely open old wounds that were nearly healed.
A key strength of a leader is that leader’s ability to select subordinates. Obama selected Joe Biden to be his VP. That one decision shows either his incompetence or his hatred for American Cultural values. In Joe Biden he would have a willing scapegoat or a corrupt clown grifter, depending on the situation. While Obama installed far left Anti-American zealots in his cabinet, he played nice with the global elite and the Clinton-istas. He received a Nobel Prize before starting to work. His actions were cheered on by the captive mainstream media. America was punished, that was the point. Common Sense was deemed to be an ancient philosophy that was now irrelevant.
But Common Sense is never irrelevant. The values embedded in the American Dream include hard work, family values, and a deep-seated love of Country, a concept called Patriotism. It isn’t populism or nationalism, it’s a belief in the goodness of America.
In 2010 the concept of Common Sense began to rise in the form of the Tea Party movement. It was in response to the Obama administration’s policies, not racism. But the press would play it as racism. The Tea Party message was ignored by those in power on both sides of the aisle. That movement was reborn in 2016 as Make America Great Again with Donald Trump as its figurehead. But President Trump was not accepted by the elites or the mainstream media. He had personal flaws, but his policies were Common Sense and Heartland America knew it. The Heartland embraced the policies and learned to love the flawed leader. As a result, they were called “The Deplorables” and received the label “The MAGA crowd.”
It should be clear to any objective observer that the 2020 Presidential election was corrupted by the collusion of the DNC with the media, Big Tech, other anti-American oligarchs along with the perverse opportunities for mischief provided by the COVID-19 Pandemic, primarily non-surveillance of the massive number of mail-in ballots. Biden was not legitimately elected and even moderately intelligent Democrats know that. Most Democrats were enjoying the benefits of the Trump administration’s policies but that wasn’t enough to overcome the utter dislike for Trump-the-Man. The fraudulent election results cannot be undone. So the MAGA believers are now the America First movement. It’s not about Trump.
Many conservative politicians believe their path to office requires a Trumpian endorsement. That may be true and that is the role that Donald Trump should play from now on. He should read George Washington’s Farewell Address and emulate that American hero. Those seeking office should embrace the principles that began with the Tea Party Movement-Family, Faith, Equality under the Law, and Love of Country. It has all been written down and is available to everyone as the Declaration of Independence and U. S. Constitution. It’s not about Trump.
The far left seems unwilling (or unable) to debate issues on the basis of facts but rather on the basis of name-calling. Fraser Tytler said, here in paraphrase, a democracy can only last about 200 years, or until the people learn they can vote largesse to themselves.
Very perceptive analysis, Martin. . .the country seems to be in a state of political stasis. . .people feel helpless to change the downward spiral of American life and cannot trust the GOP to do anything positive, not even support the duly elected and still legitimate President Trump. . .just saw "2,000 Mules," and sadly, even conservative media is deliberately ignoring what should instigate serious legal and law enforcement action. . .but. . .nada. Seems we may now be under God's judgment.
