The city of St. Louis and St. Louis County in Missouri are largely dominated by the Democratic Party. The Democrats profess to support organized labor, civil rights initiatives, and increasing the funding for education and infrastructure projects. They even say that they are focusing on reducing crime rates and increasing access to jobs and economic opportunities for all the residents in the city and surrounding county. You could say that St. Louis, Missouri is strongly Liberal, and you would be right. In St. Louis County over 82% of the people voted Democrat in the last presidential election. Only 16% voted for the Republican Party, and the remaining 2% voted Independent. In fact, St. Louis city and county residents have voted Democratic in every Presidential election since 2000.
And what have they gotten for this loyalty? Why they now have a Democratic Socialist as their Congressional Representative. They elected Cori Bush to solve their problems. But Cori Bush thinks the priority for her constituency is to fight catastrophic climate change as well as the alleged systemic rule of racist white supremacists. Utter nonsense on both imaginary issues.
A member of the “Squad”, Representative Bush accused fossil fuel advocate and House GOP witness Alex Epstein of “once espousing white supremacist views” during a March 8th hearing on the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. As her evidence, Bush referenced Epstein calling Western culture superior to other cultures in his college newspaper. She also said Epstein was funded by Big Oil. That was two shameful lies in one breath. Then she said Epstein was there to “promote fossil fuels, which we know are disproportionately harming and killing black and brown people.” Huh? Actually, black people are disproportionately killing black people. Just check with the residents of Chicago, New Orleans and Baltimore for starters. Who runs those cities?
Now Alex Epstein is a friend of mine and he is no white supremacist. He is an advocate for affordable energy for all the peoples of the world, regardless of skin color. Alex is well respected as an energy expert. His research has led him to the conclusion that fossil fuels are the better solution today for providing the world’s energy. He also believes that the rush to unreliable, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and biofuels will cause harm to most of the developing nations who need low-cost reliable energy. He believes that natural gas and nuclear energy are the better clean energy solutions and questions why environmental activists reject both of these logical energy sources. Alex is a common-sense advocate. His goal is, and has always been, human flourishing—regardless of race or culture.
Cori Bush is an embarrassment to the Show-Me State. She has the skill set to not be “stupid.” She is an educated person and has been successful as a nurse and as a church leader. She should redirect her efforts to helping her “people” regardless of race, ethnicity and culture as well as a myriad of other defining features covered by the Constitution and its Amendments. She took an oath to do that. What she has been doing is contrary to that oath. She should change direction, leave the “Squad” and the Democratic Socialists, and represent the interests of her constituency in an honest and fair manner. If not, she should be impeached or at least sanctioned by Congress. It is up to the residents of St. Louis and St. Louis County to vote for more honest representation, perhaps by someone with good character, not just a certain skin color. Now, where have I heard that before?
SHAMEFUL
Very good information . . we don't know why any normally intelligent, critical thinking person would vote for Cori Bush (or any Democrat for that matter). Under President Trump -- whether you supported him or not -- the economy was moving in the right direction, prices were affordable, our status in the world was secure. . .but now the country is in shambles in almost every aspect. Thank you Martin for the analysis.
