Following a Friday morning prayer meeting, a discussion began about about the Democrat party’s successful use of the voting procedures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. We don’t discuss politics before or during our weekly prayer meetings, but after the meetings politics is fair game. I commented that the Republicans should follow the Democrat election strategy and start voting early using mail-in ballots and start ballot harvesting. One of my Christian brothers said Republicans should avoid that since it seemed unethical. He felt that voting on Election Day would set a better example, even if it meant losing.
In my opinion, the rules have changed and the Republicans should get into the early and mail-in voting battle. But it is sad and here is why: The right to vote was earned with the blood of our military veterans. They sacrificed their lives so Americans could vote. They would be astonished to see that citizens today find it too difficult to go to the polls on Election Day. In fact, many of today’s voters would even let someone else collect their ballot and cast it for them. This is called ballot harvesting. And it opens the door for evil doing. Why it seems that just identifying oneself as an American citizen using a photo ID is an insurmountable task for minority voters. Even signing and dating a mail-in ballot envelope requires skills beyond the reach of many of these voters. So the Democrats provide the help. Maybe even marking some of the ballots and trashing some others? There is room for sneaky business from the ballot pickup at the nursing home to the ballot box. And you can’t prove it either way, that’s the point. And if you even question the results you will be labeled a conspiracy theory wacko or worse. It’s not what the Patriots of yesteryear expected of Americans.
Those young men, heading for the shores of Normandy on D-day, many to die for their Country, would probably be appalled at the lack of patriotic zeal of American voters. They would never have considered mailing-it-in from their Higgins boat crashing into the Normandy shores that fateful June day in 1944. And, identifying oneself as an American citizen? Why that was considered the highest of honors for those young heroes. They were proud to show the world that they were Americans. Today, the elites of both parties only wave the Flag when it is a political opportunity, not a Patriotic duty. And one party even denounces honoring the Flag these kids died to protect. And you know what party that is.
